In recognition of her outstanding advocacy and commitment to the students and families of Bloomfield Hills Schools, and her lifelong passion for music and the performing arts, the Bloomfield Hills Board of Education hereby dedicates the Cynthia E. von Oeyen Center for Performing Arts.
Mrs. von Oeyen began her career of volunteer service to BHS in 1987 as founding PTO President of the Fox Hills Preschool PTO. She was also President of Eastover Elementary School PTO and PTO Council President. She was first elected to the Board of Education in 1998, where she continued to serve for over 22 years, including four years as President. Her passionate advocacy for BHS and all public schools was well known across Oakland county, as well as in Lansing and in Washington D.C. Her leadership and collaborative decision-making positively impacted the lives of thousands of students.
As a founding board member of the Bloomfield Hills Schools Foundation, Mrs. von Oeyen is proud to leave this legacy that will help to provide the resources for every child to become architects of their own futures, ignite their passion, fuel their dreams, and become lifelong learners.
